Project: How did values of progress become visions of progress? What is the role of the aesthetic? 

Progress and development are often associated with scientific and technological advances.  However, aesthetic sensibilities arising from cultural and political influences may have more to do with how advances are designed.  Why do we plant monocrops in rows? Why do we want wilderness "untouched"? Why is air-conditioning so cold?
